THE NEW DUNCAN IMPERIALS - End of Phase One (Pravdamusic.com)

The New Duncan Imperials uncork some of the greasiest, most soulful psychedelic rockabilly since back in the days of Link Wray, or currently Sonny Kenn. Mixing obscurities with authentic-sounding originals the band avoids the cutesy revivalism of early 80’s roots rock, wringing emotion from songs instead of championing mediocrity.

The loose, rubbery grooves on tunes like “High School Soul,” or “I Love You Honey, But I Hate Your Band,” are unleashed like a series of loudly perfect three-minute-plus blasts of musical mojo.

When they change speeds and bring it down a gazillion notches, they breakout the acoustic guitars and Replacements’ songbook and turn into an intellectual band with tongue-in-cheek charm.- And they pull both styles off with imaginative precision.

With the group offering it’s own unconventional version of hard rock, the chew through this fiery batch of tunes with rabid, enthusiastic trashiness. Rock ‘n’ roll they way it should be played!- Phil Rainone

Innerpartysystem are one of those bands like Family Force 5, that if you saw their name on the list for The Warped Tour you’d do a double take, and your first reaction would be, “Naw, they don’t sound like they’d fit in with bands like Reel Big Fish, or Bouncing Souls!” But, once you hear their music you’ll say, “Hell yeah! They’d be the cats ass on the Tour!”

Neo-Kraftwerk beats but with slicker, upbeat rhythms, Innerpartysystem brings the genre into the modern era with smart, crisp precision, and up to the minute lyrics (check: “Die Tonight Live Forever, “Don’t Stop,” or New Poetry,” for starters).

The band moves easily from Depeche Mode- like synthesizers and vocals to pop punk with ease an imagination. Innerpartysystem are very talented, and possess a wide array of genre’s, and a masterful, sonic palette. Songs like “Structure,” or “This Town Your Grave,” are like outtakes from Bowie’s “Heroes” days. Sonic landscapes that are Eno-esque which will enhance your imagination with sound and vision.

Like on any recent Warped Tour, keep an open mind, forget about your musical prejudices and you’ll be amazed at the bands you’ll find. Innerpartysystem being case in p
